Piano Bar, Duporth Tavern, Sneaky Baron and Post Office Bar Maroochydore
Spending a day at the beach at Maroochydore deserves an ale or two to end the day. Venturing down Ocean street Maroochydore there are an abundance of restaurants and bars to quench the thirst of a sun beaten bather. First stop was the Piano Bar located at the top of Ocean street. They have numerous beers on tap, a few James Squires, Peroni, Stone & Wood Pacific Ale and a few others. Great looking bar, bartender was friendly and the beer was even better.
Next stop was the Post Office Bar. After getting excited about the prospect of the 4 Pines Christmas Saison being on tap which was there last year I was highly disappointed. I will go into detail with that later. The Post Office Bar have a few craft beers on tap namely Stone & Wood Garden Ale and Capital Brewing Coast Ale the best of the bunch. The Coast Ale was quite enjoyable and certainly would recommend again. The bar itself was lacking atmosphere and which reflected on the patronage as we were the only customers. Lunch was around $16.50 for a steak burger but they could have thrown in the chips at that price.
Another stop was the Duporth Tavern on the corner of Duporth Ave and Ocean St. This is pretty similar to most taverns/pubs but seems to have that enjoyable holiday vibe about it that makes for a pleasant experience. The bar staff especially the manager were exceptional. The best on tap was the Fat Yak and at $9.50 for a pint you can’t complain too much when you don’t have it by the carton load in the fridge at home. The dinner meals were great and no complaints. The best possibly the steak with chips and salad and with $15 per meal what is there to complain about. Bring me another pint of Fat Yak too!
The best bar was saved until last. The Sneaky Baron. This has to be the best bar on the Sunshine Coast as far as the amount of craft brew on offer. They even have the local brewery 10 Toes Brewery on tap and I must say you have to try their beer. The Sneaky Baron has a few craft beers on tap and a big listing of craft beers in bottles. From the outside the place looks like any other coffee shop and they do serve breakfast, lunch, coffees etc but I was highly surprised when I saw the beer list. Owners please have a big listing of your beers on your blackboard outside so people know that your establishment has a large range of beer.
The other restaurants/bars along Ocean street have at least two craft beers on tap and are worth checking out if you are wondering along that area. The second Friday of the month they have the Ocean Street Markets which has various food and market stalls. The curry is sensational. The pizza is also worth looking at.
So I highly recommend visiting Ocean St Maroochydore whether you are a local or on holidays. You won’t be disappointed!
!!!! 4 Pines didn’t release the Christmas Saison beer on tap and is no longer in the 4 Pines Christmas Pack this year. The Christmas Pack is still very tasty and worthwhile buying – Dan Murphys and First Choice are currently selling the 2017 packs for around $30.
